To absolutely nobody’s surprise GM have announced that they’re pulling out of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! because (paraphrasing just a little) “we can’t be bothered messing about with some weird RHD markets halfway across the world in countries we couldn’t place on a map or spell so we’re going to take our ball and go home”. They’re sel li ng out to the Chinese, because Make China Great Again.

The way forward for GM is clear. Just make huge pickups and SUVs for the Americans. That’s where the money is, now and forever.

GM’s stuttering withdrawal from the rest of the world over the last few years has been a more interesting event than any of their vehicles over the last decade or so.

Criticise the VAG Group   and the Hyundai Group all we like...but they really have done well over the past decade in terms of both their vehicles and the expansion of their operations. Can’t help thinking the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Alliance and the new Peugeot FCA tieup are looking a good bet from here on in too.

Wonder how GM are going to grow if they restrict themselves to North America and China...

They haven’t grown in decades. They will subsist as long as they can. America has plenty of “Chevy guys” etcetera who will pay them to be shit for a while at least.

Gotta pump those short term profit numbers to get your golden parachute. GM isn't thinking long term.

They won't, Mary Barra is presiding over a slow motion liquidation of the company. Get them small enough so that SAIC can step in and easily purchase what remains.

With the sale of Opel/Vauxhall (read: they surrendered in Europe in 2017) I already thought GM was a dead company walking. They’re being bled dry. I realize that the 1 million cars they sold in Europe in their last full year on that continent don’t compare to the much smaller AUS m arket, but still.
